Crafted by Chef Lucas Sin (Food & Wine's Best New Chefs 2021) and handmade in small batches at junzi’s NYC restaurant in Morningside Heights, each The Met x Junzi Year of The Tiger Celebration Chili Oil Gift Set comes with a pair of distinctively different flavors. A perfect gift for celebrating the Year of the Tiger, this special set is presented in a commemorative gift box adorned with art curated in collaboration with The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Exclusive to this collaboration with The Met, our new Year of The Tiger Chili Oil is infused with red Sichuan peppercorn, red turmeric, hyssop thyme, and laurel bay leaf. Deserving to be enjoyed on its own, this chili oil leaves a floral, deeply fragrant, and slightly toasted finish. Our Original Junzi Chili Oil is made of single-origin Tianjin chili peppers. It’s clean, bright, and spicy, perfect for mixing with black vinegar to make a dipping sauce.
Inspired by a pair of early 20th-century woodblock prints from The Met Asian Art collection: New Year Picture of Door God Zhao Gongming (left) and the Shining Daoist Immortal (right), the gift box design seeks to give context in which traditional New Year woodblock prints are used: posted on the main entrance of homes, offering protection and prosperity to the families they guard.
The Year of the Tiger chili oil has a medium spice level, while our original chili oil has a higher spice level. We recommend using both for drizzling over your favorite dishes as a finishing touch, or as a bold base for stir fries and sauces. Try it over eggs, avocado toast, dumplings, scallion pancakes, roasted meats, or vegetables!
